Would you like to join our Warbler team?

After 10 years, one of our editors, John Bramwell, is stepping down. We are extremely grateful for his contribution.  If you think you have what it takes, and are interested in being a part of the award-winning team who produce the village magazine, The Warbler, please read on.  If you’re new to the village, it’s a great way to meet people and find out how the village ticks.  If you’ve been here awhile you may feel it is the right time to become more involved in village life and would like to share some of your well-respected wisdom.

We have re-jigged some of the duties and would like, and are looking for, a third editor to look after the advertisers and finances. A system is already in place, but help is needed to keep it running smoothly. We have about 20 advertisers in each issue and many have annual contracts for adverts in every issue.  So finances are straight forward – invoice advertisers; forward their cheques to Great Wilbraham Parish Council; send Burwell Community Print Centre Print Centre invoices to the PC for payment.  Donations and other expenses are few and far between. Good records of all this forms a basis for a financial summary which is part of the annual report for the Parish Councils.

Because of the quality of the publication, we don’t have much trouble getting advertisers – there is often a waiting list, but you would deal with new enquiries and help advertisers develop their adverts.

As part of the editorial team you would have a say in style, policy matters and editorial decisions shaping the future of the magazine.  After agreement with other editors, the final draft copy is produced and proof reading is part of the editors’ functions. And with all this we have a bit of fun as well. When the copies are back from the printers it’s time to relax with a large G & T and have a rest until the next issue.

Please contact us for more information about being a part of this exciting village venture.
