‘Wellbrahams’ Garden party

Robert Turner and his family hosted a lovely visit to their beautiful garden including an amazing three/four course lunch. The event was to raise funds for the Wellbraham’s group, which promotes mental health and wellbeing in the Wilbrahams. The total raised was £340 which included some kind donations from people unable to attend. This means that every event put on by the group is free, this autumn that includes a talk on dementia by the Alzheimer’s Society and a Watercolour Workshop run by Helen Clarke. Please look on noticeboards and in the shop window for more details.

Sarah Fordham’s poem sums up very well the amazement many of us felt on seeing the garden, recognising only too well the work that goes into such a labour of love.

Cottage Garden

It’s sad to say, my garden
leaves a lot to be desired.
Despite the dreary weather,
I am feeling quite inspired.
I’ve toured a cottage garden
at a Well-brahams event.
Enjoyed the flowers close-up
from the best side of the fence.
I didn’t know that lily flowers
could even grow that size!
Arrays of stunning dahlias
are worthy of a prize.
Their fuchsia bush, amazingly,
almost as tall as me,
compared to mine at home
that’s lacking flowers and tiny.
Their lawn is lush and spongy.
Mine is sparse and full of weeds.
They’re growing spuds, courgettes and leeks.
I’ve just got runner beans.
My garden lacks some colour,
it’s just several shades of green,
but the garden at Reed Cottage
is the finest I have seen.
There’s barely any weeds in sight.
It’s a phenomenon.
I think your garden’s great enough
to rival Monty Don.
