The Well-brahams’ planting project began in the village today

As many villagers may well know by now, the Well-brahams’ planting project began in the village today.

Our initial work was carried out along the strip of land adjacent to the Parish Council notice board and the play area.

We started by removing the turf and then put down manure and mulch ready for planting on Friday 16 April. All of the volunteers worked very hard for almost four hours, but there was a lot to laugh about and we were frequently joined by a very friendly robin!

The afternoon was great fun and flew by. Rosie provided a gigantic pot of welcome tea as we were flagging and we managed to keep going until spots of rain stopped play.

This project is generously funded by a grant from the Co-Op – members have chosen to use their local contribution to fund planting in the Wilbrahams. This isn’t about’ prettying up’ our village but is about the community, wellbeing and social aspects of working together. We had hoped to involve many more age groups but Covid restrictions have delayed this.

If anyone would like to get involved or has ideas about future planting please contact us. We work closely with the Wilbrahams’ Environment Group and are very grateful for the expert guidance we have had from them.
