Strip the Willow and do-si-do’s at the Barn Dance

Cowboy hats, straw hats, jeans and gingham were the order of the day for the Barn Dance at the end of June.  Music was provided by the Wide Glide Band with

a caller helping participants through the various moves.  A BBQ and salad bar completed the atmosphere with

special Hamburgers from Michael’s Butcher and turkey burgers.  £600 was raised for acoustic panels for the hall.

Sarah Fordham  tells it in poetry.

We took our partners by the hand,

and danced along to Wide Glide Band.

To the rhythm, we stripped the willow

and learned to do the Do-Si-Do.

A sell-out crowd at Wilbraham Hall.

Friends young and old and short and tall.

Some sporting hats, some wearing checks

or gingham scarves around their necks.

Guitar, accordion, fiddle too

and Sibby told us what to do.

The dance floor packed right from the start.

Such fun to watch if not taking part.

With Peter’s superb barbecue.

Lots of delicious salads too.

The whole Hall permeated fun.

Next year, let’s hold another one!
