Road Closure, Station Road. Fulbourn update
Please see below an update on the emergency sewage works at Station Road, Fulbourn from the Street Works Inspector at Cambridgeshire County Council.
It has taken several days to locate the pumped sewer main due to the depth of the main and the make-up of the road being reinforced concrete and very thick tarmac. When I was on site on Tuesday morning they were still in the process of locating the failed section pipework. They believed it maybe on a 90 degree bend which could be encased in concrete and have thrust blocks around it.
We chased Anglian Water contractors to ensure that the diversion route is monitored and special signs that are more specific are used to make it easier for the general public to understand where they can and can’t go.
In short, this is not a straight forward job at all. The use of trench support has to be taken into account as well as the health and safety measures of dealing with raw sewerage.
Anglian Water have now repaired the burst sewerage main after working extended hours to complete the works and they have now back filled the excavations which will be left to set overnight. Tomorrow morning (13/3) they will complete the Tarmac reinstatement and look to reopen the road by tomorrow evening at the earliest or Saturday morning at the latest.
