Rain – Sax – Magic – Fire – Fun

A big thank you to all those residents who braved the rain on Saturday to mingle in St John’s Little Wilbraham in celebration of the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.  The trusty beacon on church green was lit to welcome our visitors who entered St John’s via an archway of a twinkling crown. It was great to see so many familiar and not so familiar faces come together in an atmospheric space lit by candles.  A rough head count of around 170 on the night was a great compliment to all our volunteers.

Music was provided by the fantastic Cambridge Sax Quartet and magic by our roving magician, Matthew Le Mottée.  An impromptu rendition of God Save the King – including a second verse – was vigorously supported by some co-opted Wilbrahams Community Choir members and David, our council chair, spread a little mischief.

Ian as usual, produced a superb sugar lump that disappeared as it was cut and the compliments were many. The secret by the way, for the zing in the taste, is lemon oil.

Sadly the fireworks were kept in their box – it was too wet and the clouds were too low.  However, we are thinking another event at the appropriate ” time “ of the year, might solve this problem.

A big, big thanks must go to Ruth, the Little Wilbraham Commons Rights Holders,  Beaumonts Butchers in Fulbourn, St John’s and especially all the volunteers that made this event so successful.

And thank YOU again for coming.

Look out for our next event which will be ” the Feast “- our salute to midsummer which will be held around the 21st June, date to be finalised.  There will be games the opening of the multi user games court, the Beacon (again) and other fun stuff.  Recreation ground Little Wilbraham, where the new court now lives.
