Queen’s Birthday Tea

It was good to see so many people at the Strawberry Tea on Sunday when we were able to celebrate the occasion of Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday as a community with friends and neighbours.

I have had many messages telling me how much you enjoyed celebrating the occasion appropriately and this is due largely to all those who contributed in so many ways.

The Birthday cake was stunning as we have our very own village star baker. The Queen seemed to looking on approvingly! No birthday would be complete without singing Happy Birthday and our village choir gave an excellent performance of this and other songs.

We had fun planning the decorations for the tables and setting them out in the traditional street party style, this too seems to have met with your approval!

I was overwhelmed by all your offers for help not only with your willingness to do some of your own baking but all the other jobs, washing up amongst many, that are needed for an occasion such as this.

The treasure hunt, fancy dress and the drawings of the Queen were enjoyed by both the children and adults.

We were fortunate to have some very generous raffle prizes donated for the occasion which kept the “raffle ladies “busy.

In response to the Queens wishes we were able to raise £1318 for The Children’s Society, so thank you to all who bought raffle tickets and gave donations so generously.

So thank you to all of you and in particular to my team

Jackie Beadsmore, Patsy Deller and Sue Lee.

Thank you

Di Raikes
