“Music From Around the World”

The Wilbrahams’ Community Choir Annual Concert

Our community choir put on a remarkable concert on the evening of Friday 24th May 2019 under the expertise of our fabulous Musical Director, Gill Humphreys. The theme was “Music From Around the World”. We sang a variety of pieces including an Israeli folk song, an Italian madrigal, love songs from Guatemala and Wales and a medley from the Sound of Music. Choir member Martin Gienke adapted the lyrics from “There is Nothing Like a Dame” from South Pacific and these became transformed into a fantastic piece titled “There is Nothing Like a Choir”, which of course is true!

The choir was supported by our talented local band “The Tofty Club” playing two sets of numbers, including a smooth Bossa Nova called Christopher’s Bossa and a fabulous cover of an Alison Krauss song, “Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us”.

The finale combined the choir, the band and audience participation in a rousing rendition of “Rockin’ All Over THe World”, by Status Quo.

During the interval the audience were treated to a glass of Prosecco and some strawberries. It was a mild, dry, late spring evening and we were able enjoy these outside on the green. Many people complimented the choir and the band, and said what a lovely event it had been. With a record number of ticket sales and generous donations on the night we were delighted to make £750 in profit, which will go towards the refurbishment of the play areas in Great and Little Wilbraham.

The choir meets on Thursday evenings during term time, from 8-9 pm in the Wilbrahams’ Memorial Hall. It is very friendly and inclusive. Everyone is welcome and no auditions are necessary! If you want any further information please contact Vanessa at vanessajnichols@yahoo.co.uk.
