Mill Road/High Street Parking

October 2024

Dear Fellow Resident

The Mill Road / High Street “Triangle” Junction

There have been several vehicle collisions recently at the junction of Mill Road and the High Street, known as “The Triangle”.

As a safety measure the Parish Council requests residents not to park their vehicles on or near the junction.

“The Triangle” is considered by many to be very dangerous because of the narrowness of the roads, the poor visibility and the many vehicles, including HGVs, that are turning or passing through. All of this is exacerbated by the presence of parked vehicles. This has been highlighted as a problem by many village residents in their response to our recent Highways, Transport and Cycleways Survey.

We are asking the Highways Department of Cambridgeshire County Council to suggest ways in which the junction might be modified to safeguard drivers and their passengers, as well as pedestrians. Any proposed change would not happen quickly and would require funding from both the County Council and the Parish. Should any proposal come forward you would, of course, be consulted prior to any alteration being agreed.

Whilst we await recommendations about any physical changes that could be made, we are asking everyone living in the area of the Triangle to park their vehicles safely and to follow the rules of the Highway Code, which states that drivers should not stop or park opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space. In particular, drivers should not park on any of the white lines.

Please ensure that your household and any visitors follow this rule, to help improve visibility for all and to maintain adequate safe road space for vehicles as they negotiate this junction.

Yours faithfully

H Burton
