Help reduce speed in the Wilbrahams

You can help reduce speed in the Wilbrahams

The Transport Working Group (TWG) is involved with the regional, and national campaigns for 20’s Plenty and seeking a 20 mph speed limit for the Wilbrahams.

Already, more than half of the largest 40 urban authorities in the UK have a policy of setting 20mph as the default for all their streets – see https://www.20splenty.org/20mph_places Great Wilbraham Parish Council has enthusiastically endorsed 20’s Plenty amongst other measures, such as reviewing the road safety arrangements outside the School.

Here’s your chance to help

Help our children walk and cycle to school. Give us 20 mph speed limits in Great Wilbraham

The TWG has free bumper stickers and window stickers for your car and urges you to display these and then drive at 20 mph in the Wilbrahams.

They are free and Yasir has kindly agreed to have them on the counter in the shop.  They are also available from Martin Gienke, 46 Church Street, Great Wilbraham (01223 882426 and via martin@gienke.net)

The safety statistics speak for themselves.

The comparison here is with the equivalent of a fall.

20 mph limits are affordable and have significant, proven road safety, societal, environmental, economic and climate benefits.

Benefits do not depend on regular Police enforcement; any speed reduction reduces traffic risk, particularly to children, walkers, cyclists and scooter riders.

20 mph limits are supported by many organisations – the World Health Organisation (WHO), Association of Directors of Public Health, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health, Alzheimer’s Society, UK Health Forum, and Public Health Wales.

Collect your 20’s Plenty stickers and join the campaign to make our villages safer. Don’t wait for the lower speed limit to be introduced; set an example: drive at 20 mph now and encourage others to do likewise.
