Gardening Club questions Chris South
Wilbrahams’ Gardening Club stars, Susan Lee, Elaine Allison and Peter Thurlby were a great help to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s gardening guru, Chris South, when he lead a Question and Answers session at the September meeting of The Wilbrahams’ Gardening Club. Topics raised included plants able to survive the increasing problem of drought; companion planting to ward off insect pests from a main crop (marigolds and nasturtiums are useful for this) as well as what grows best in chalk. True to form, Chris’s lovely, relaxed style stimulated great audience participation. He rounded the evening off with hilarious tales of his fifteen years of broadcasting with the famous ‘vocal yokel’, Dennis of Grunty Fen (the late Pete Sayers).
Note: The Gardening Club meets every third Monday evening in the Memorial Hall. New members very welcome. Contact: jackiebeadsmoore@icloud.com
