Contested Heritage – Martin Daunton – Tuesday 2nd March 8pm

To wrap up our current series of Know Your Neighbour our final presenter will be Martin Daunton.

For those of you who don’t know Martin he is a prolific author, historian and lecturer of international renown and he is also a commissioner of Historic England.

For our final presentation Martin will tell us about what he does for English Heritage/Historic England  as a commissioner.  Historic England is in the news about ‘contested heritage’ or taking down (or not) statues.  There is also the issue of what is allowed in World heritage Sites – like the Stonehenge tunnel and Everton stadium in Liverpool.  Plus the change in the planning system with the new white paper on ‘Building Better, Building Beautiful’ which claims to offer a ‘fast track’ to good design (but which many people think is a developers’ charter to produce standard design without sensitivity to the locality).

If you would like to know more about Martin his website can be found here.

Don’t miss our final talk for Series II.
