Bell Ringing for Remembrance Sunday 2025

The Ringers at Great Wilbraham ask: “can you hear us from 10 am this coming Sunday?”

Sunday, 10th November is the closest to Armistice Day itself. Although there is not this year a service of Remembrance in the Wilbrahams (there is one in Fulbourn) the bell ringers at St Nicholas’ Great Wilbraham will be ringing our bells from 10 am for perhaps 30 minutes.

The bells will be “half muffled”: a saucer-shaped leather pad is strapped to one side of the clapper of each of our bells. As each bell swings to and fro, the first strike of the clapper on the bell makes the normal sound, the second makes a quieter, more solemn and resonating sound which is very different.  We will be attempting several “methods” or sequences which are specific for this occasion.
