Award-Winning Warbler
Your village magazine, The Wilbrahams’ Warbler won the silver in the Community Magazine Awards for Cambridgeshire sponsored by the Cambridge Building Society. The category was low-frequency magazines i.e. those less often than monthly. The award was presented to Martin Gienke, one of the Warbler editors, at the awards dinner on 13th July. A cash prize of £50 went with the award which will go towards funding the recent Celebrating Warbling event.
Fifty villagers who contributed to the Warbler’s editorial and photographic content, advertisers and deliverers gathered in the Wilbrahams’ Memorial Hall on 5th July to receive thanks for their contribution and part in producing the village magazine.
Steve Bartlett, Chairman of the Great Wilbraham Parish Council and Paul Lampton, former Chairman of the Little Wilbraham Parish Council thanked the editors and those present for their support and stressed the vital role the publication plays in community communication.
On behalf of the editors Martin Gienke thanked the participants for the tremendous response and help the editors receive to produce the magazine with fresh, lively and informative content. This was reinforced last year when the Warbler was in the top 15% in a national competition for village magazines.
The guest speaker at Celebrating Warbling was Adrian Peel who is a reporter for the Cambridge Independent newspaper. He gave some background of the newspaper which started publishing again in summer 2016 and also gave tips on writing news articles and stories.
