A11 Babraham to Six Mile Bottom resurfacing update

This is to update you on the essential maintenance work on the A11 between Babraham and Six Mile Bottom. The work includes resurfacing, barrier replacement and sign renewals. This will ensure that the A11 remains safe and serviceable for years to come.

Work began on Monday 6 March 2023 and is expected to be completed by February 2024.

Upcoming closures and diversions

The next phase of work will take place on the A11 southbound between Six Mile Bottom and Balsham Road from Monday 5 February to Thursday 22 February. Work will be carried out on weeknights between 8pm and 6am.

To carry out the work safely, National Highways need to close the A11 southbound, and traffic will be diverted via the A14 and M11 (Strategic diversion).

Other planned work

National Highways also plan to carry out maintenance and improvement work on the A14 between Cambridge and Newmarket.
This work will include resurfacing, replacement of road markings, signs and road studs between junction 35 (Stow Cum Quy) and junction 36 (Nine Mile Hill). This will ensure the A14 remains safe and serviceable for years to come.

They plan to carry out this work over approx. 6 months, starting on Monday 19 February 2024. They’ll be working predominately weeknights with some weekends, between 8 pm and 5am/6am, weather permitting. The first phase will involve closures of the A14 eastbound and will thus not affect the diversion for when the A11 southbound is closed.
