£300 raised for mental health charities
Garden Party at Reed Cottage – Sunday 8th July 2018
On Sunday 8th July, we had the second fabulously successful garden party hosted by Robert Turner and his wonderful family – Rosie, Richard, Tina and John. The garden is beautiful and, being located on the corner at Little Wilbraham, it gives so much pleasure to so many, particularly passing motorists. The variety of species cultivated is amazing from sky high oriental lilies to delicate cacti. The weather for once was predictably warm and all the guests were greeted with an equally warm reception from the family. We were treated to a three course, home-made, sit down lunch which was delicious. Particular thanks to Tina who had made three delicious fragrant curries accompanied by cashew rice and chapatis, followed by an unusual and exceptional fresh fruit salad. The recipe was requested: finely chopped melon, lychees, pomegranate seeds and a touch of rosewater – try it for a change. Lunch was finished with cheese and biscuits and a very tasty lemon polenta cake made by Sally Ramus. As expected, the conversation and wine flowed. The lunch was sponsored by the Well-brahams, a group of villagers raising awareness of mental health and well-being in the villages. There were some very generous donations to our raffle. Helen Clarke gave an original flower watercolour painting, Patsy Deller gave a beautiful bouquet and several rose posies and Amanda Turner from The Woman Shed, Station Road in Great Wilbraham, donated some great original craftwork. Thanks to these very generous donors and others, we made £300 profit from the event which will be shared between two local mental health charities: Lifecraft, who do invaluable work with local people with mental ill health who have needs not always met by services, and Rethink, a local branch of the national charity who work with carers of people with mental ill health, and who also produce lots of very good educational materials. Finally, many, many thanks to Robert and his lovely family for hosting the event and putting in an enormous amount of time behind the scenes, cooking, preparing and clearing up. THANKS A MILLION!
